Introduction

The chapter “Winds of Change” highlights the power of change, courage, determination and progressive thinking. The chapter shows how individuals and society can move forward overcoming the problems caused by the changing nature of the society.

It reflects that we should be always be ready to incorporate the modifications/changes in our way of life whenever it required.  The chapter encourages readers to understand that change is a natural and necessary part of life. However, meaningful change often requires courage, awareness and the willingness to challenge established practices.

Themes of the Chapter

1. Change and Transformation

The central theme of the chapter is that change is inevitable. With the passage of time, changes take place in every sphere of life. The chapter emphasises that we need to be ready to adapt our traditional arts and crafts to changing times; otherwise, they may gradually lose their relevance and presence in society.

2. Tradition versus Progress

The chapter highlights that tradition and progress can go hand in hand. We can preserve the essence and cultural value of our heritage, traditional arts and crafts while accepting suitable changes and adopting new ideas and methods. This balance can help our traditions remain relevant in the modern world.

The chapter suggests ways of creating sustainable livelihoods through traditional crafts. Activities such as conducting workshops and exhibitions, promoting traditional craftsmanship and spreading awareness can provide artisans with opportunities to earn a livelihood while also preserving their cultural heritage.
